OURVET

As a boy I always wanted a Corvette. I remember going and looking at them at the Chevrolet Dealership in Greenville, SC in the 60’s, thinking that one day I would have one. As I grew up, there always seemed to be something more important in life to spend our money on (a house, a daughter and all the things that it takes to raise her). Life moves on and Tracy grows up, so now it’s just Peggy and me. It’s our turn to start enjoying life with each other and to bring some of our early dreams to life. Our search for our Corvette began after a trip to the Corvette Assembly Plant in 1997. We looked at all models of Corvettes for over a year and the right one just never came along. One Saturday morning in October 1998, we were out riding in Greenville and we passed the Chevrolet Dealershipwhere Peggy saw this Red Corvette sitting on the lot. Peggy wanted to go back and look at it, but when I turned and saw that it was an older Corvette (an '89 C-4), I wasn't interested. We had already looked at plenty of these and they all seemed to need a lot of work. I told her I wasn’t interested in looking at another one that old, but she insisted. We turned and went back. BOY, what a find! It was a 1989 Red Coupe with 14,440 miles and it looked like it had just rolled out of the Assembly Plant. Needless to say this car left with us and we have had a great time doing things with this car ever since. We moved back to Georgia in '98 and now we belong to the BEST CORVETTE CLUB in America and we both are having a ball going places and meeting people. Our Georgia Tag reads "OURVET". Every once in a while I write Poems about different people or things that have touched my life, so I wrote one about OURVET - its called A Boy’s Dream Comes True. It will be added to the club's website very soon. I sure hope that you will enjoy the poem. Watch out, there’s
a lot of Baby Boomers on the prowl.Steve & Peggy Hodge |
