Dana Bound's 2012 Velocity Yellow GS Coupe and 1966 Trophy Blue Coupe

My parents, Ben and Mary Beth Whitacre, ordered and purchased this 1966 Trophy Blue, 350-horse small-block coupe that is equipped with a 3.70:1 rear-end and a close-ratio four-speed from the Chevy dealership owned by my grandfather, Whitacre Chevrolet, in Tonganoxie, KS.  It was used as our family car and both myself and my sister will proudly tell you we were raised in the “back seat”.

The car was repainted in 1989 with a second fresh coat of paint.  The car’s brightwork and carpet were also replaced around the same time.  The next year the engine and complete chassis were cleaned without taking anything apart.

In 1991 the car took it’s first-ever trip on a trailer to Bloomington, IL where it was awarded the prestigious Bloomington Gold certification.  It was also awarded the Top Flight Award by the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) in 1992.

My parents had many cars, including four other Corvettes, during their 52 year marriage but the “blue car” was the only one that they could just never part with.  It moved with them from Kansas to Iowa to Minnesota, back to Iowa and finally Missouri.

Ben passed away in 2016 and Mary Beth in 2020.  At that time I inherited the car and am proud to own it with the intent of passing it down to my daughter someday.

I also purchased this 2012 Grand Sport 4LT Velocity Yellow C6 from some great friends in Springfield, MO in December of 2022.  The intent in purchasing this car was to have a car that I can drive year-round to various shows and events.
