Chaz & Gael Cone's 2006 Machine Silver Coupe

This is our ninth and, sadly, last Corvette.  My first was a 1960 Silver/White coves roadster with a hard top only and a 3-speed manual transmision which I received as a gift from my parents in 1960 while I was at Georgia Tech.

My second was a 1961 Honduras Maroon Roadster with a hard top only that I bought from Mike Persia Chevrolet in Greenville SC.  It seems I couldn't stand not having a car payment -- and I really wanted a 4-speed manual transmission.  The car came with Fuel Injection but I sold it off in favor of a 4-barrel carburetor to save $300.  This is the car I drove into Lake Hartwell in November 1961. That story is HERE.

An error-in-judgment-first-marriage forced me to sell the 'Vette but, 30 minutes after the divorce, I ordered a 1965 Goldwood Yellow convertible from Central Chevrolet in Atlanta.

A second marriage caused that one to be traded off for a "family" car -- but as soon as we could afford it, I bought a 1967 Sunfire Yellow convertible from its first owner in Roswell, GA.

In 1980, for some unknown reason, I decided to let the '67 go to a chap who'd been begging me to sell it to him for years.  That was a huge error and I cannot account for it.

We were Corvette-less until my father passed away in 1991 and I had the funds to invest in another 'Vette.  We found a 1990 Torch Red convertible and we were back in the saddle Corvette-wise

I was through selling Corvettes but still into buying them.  Our fourth 'Vette was a 1998 Black Coupe purchased new from Tom Jumper Chevrolet in Sandy Springs.  My wife bought me BBS rims and it looked great.  This is the car we took to LeMans in 2000.

Also in 1998 a friend turned me on to a 1964 Satin Silver convertible at VIP Classics in San Diego.  I flew out and bought it to restore my mid-year passion.  This is the car that was chosen to represent model year 1964 for the NCM Historic Motorama.  One Corvette for each model year from '53 to '03.  What a thrill!

Now that we have three Corvettes on hand, ('64, '90, '98), I added a pair of lifts to the garage so I could stack four Corvettes in the space of two.  Hmmmm.  Four Corvettes...but I only have three...

I saw a company that was building 1953 Commemorative Edition Corvettes on a C5 convertible chassis.  As soon as I saw one in real life, I knew what the fourth space in my garage had to have.  I bought a '98 Corvette on eBay, picked it up and dropped it off in MI for the conversion and six weeks later I had 53CE#11.  We took it, along with her sister CE#12 the length of Route 66.  Another great adventure!

When the C6 was announced in 2005 it caught my eye. My bride offered to get me one but I'd have to make room.  So when we got our 2006 Machine Silver coupe (above) from Bruce Glueck Chevrolet in Jasper FL (and with NCM Delivery), we sold the '90 to make room. And then someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse to sell the '64 (along with one of the lifts).

I'd reached the point in life where I needed cash more than 'Vettes so I sold the '98 via Buy-a-Vette who then sold it to a fellow CGCC member so I got to see it often.

And, then, finally I had to sell the '53 Commemorative Edition.  That, and the '67, are the two I wish I still had.

For my current ride, I saw the wheel trim rings on Wayne Mobley's C7 and asked him where he got 'em.  I ordered a set right away from RimBlades.

They have several types; I called and they recommended the "Scuffs" for $60.00.

Took about a half-hour to put 'em on.  They come in nine colors but I thought the red was exactly right for my silver w/red interior C6.

They're not only pretty but they protect your rims from scuffs (though they don't survive that).  Get 'em!
